ēnsso Pen UNO minimalist pen review

I’m a self-proclaimed pen and notebook addict. But I don’t go for ordinary pens. I like unusual ones like the ēnsso Pen UNO. I backed their Kickstarter campaign last year and now they are selling this interesting pen (and pencil) to the general public. Let’s take a look.

What is the ēnsso Pen UNO?

The ēnsso Pen UNO is a pen for minimalists or people would like sleek pens. It’s made of anodized aluminum and uses Hi-Tec C Coleto gel ink cartridges.

Design and features

The UNO is available in space grey, gold, rose gold, red and black. Yes, I know the color I’m showing above is blue. I guess ēnsso dropped that color once the general sales started.

The pen is 5.625 in (142 mm) long with the cap in the closed position and the barrel of the UNO is only 0.21 in (5.3 mm) in diameter, which is barely wider than the ink cartridge.

The grip is wider and doubles as the pen cap which is threaded to screw “closed” and open.

To access the ink cartridge you just unscrew the cap at the end of the barrel. The ink cartridge just drops in.  You don’t need a special tool for this, your thumbnail will work just fine.

Here you see all the parts for theēnsso Pen UNO. I told you this was a minimalist pen and I was not kidding!

Writing with the Pen UNO felt a little strange at first because the pen is so light but I’ve really grown to love this pen. The Hi-Tec C Coleto gel ink cartridge that comes in the pen has a very fine tip. A little too fine for my personal taste. But these cartridges are available in 0.3 mm, 0.4 mm, and 0.5mm, so I’ll get a larger point width when it comes time to replace it.

Final thoughts

I really like the ēnsso Pen UNO because of its unique design and simplicity. I would love to see this pen with a shorter barrel length because I think it would make a fantastic EDC pocket pen. It would also be cool if you could mix and match grips to have a two-tone pen.

If you’re looking for another pen to add to your collection, check out the ēnsso Pen UNO. Oh! I almost forgot. It’s available as a pencil too for the same price.
